Rehearsal Review

Please review the following for each song.


Gaudete!

  • Percussionists set an even and steady tempo in the first two measures

  • Bass baritone come in with great confidence

  • All entrances need to be confident and precise

  • Measure seven forte and together

  • Remember your dental Ds and Ts

  • Measure 14 sopranos we need to hear all of those consonants and all other parts should be Lagato not Marcato

  • Remember words ending with the letter E have the sound "EH"

  • Percussion you must be very exact and strong on measure 64

  • Percussion make sure the last measure is strong and together


Away in a Manger

  • The dynamics on this piece go from piano to fortissimo and back to pianissimo from beginning to end

  • On all of your entrances, take care not to scoop or slide

  • Measure 24 we will observe the ritardando

  • Measure 25 is a Tempo

  • Bottom of page 7, when you switch to "AH" it is still forte

  • Measure 58 we will slow down quite a bit. This is also where the piece starts to get quieter.

  • Don't slow down too much in measure 72

  • Back to the original tempo of the piece in measure 75

  • We will close to a voiced "N" sound for the last three beats


Angels, we have heard on high


  • Please remember all of the Latin rules that we have learned

  • Read vertically throughout the song

  • Sopranos measure 21 beat four remember to sing on the breath that is accent that first 16th note and sing the rest of those 16th notes on the breath

  • Bring your part out when you have the melody

  • Dynamics are vital in this piece

  • Crescendo through the bottom of page 8 and no breath as we go onto the top of page 9

  • Everyone focus on being together in measure 61


Joy to the world


  • When you have the melody in this piece, bring it out

  • Sing with tall and proper vowel sounds

  • Don't get too heavy keep your voice light and flexible

  • At B altos be ready to come in

  • Keep your wits about you during letters, C and D it can get confusing

  • Have fun with the ending you do it well


Candlelight Carol


  • When you focus on the text of this piece, you sing it beautifully

  • With the accompanist, we will take more liberties with the tempo you need to watch

  • Pages four and five, you must observe all dynamics

  • Don't slow down at D

  • The climax of this piece is at the top of page 7 however, you must keep the energy going all the way through the end
