REHEARSAL RUN THROUGH 11/24
Please focus and be ready with the following for each song for Monday's rehearsal.
Gaudete!
add percussion
Sopranos have the Latin locked down
The piece builds to an end at measure beginning at 50; dynamics are the most crucial element.
Away in a Manger
Add Laura on piano
Balance between parts (watch dynamic markings)
Watch for changes in tempo
Don't start this piece too loudly
Think tall, dark sounds
AH = UH
Tell the story
Measure 74 embrace the dissonance
Angels We Have Heard on High
During piano introductions, look out into the audience and smile.
Meanwhile, pace your breathing,
Look to me, not your music, for your entrance.
Roll your "R's"
"eeen" "Ek-chehl-sees" "Deh -Ohh"
Listen across the choir
Make your part complement what others are doing
Sing those sixteenth notes "on the breath," accenting the first of the pattern a bit.
Joy to the World
This tends to be very bright. Exaggerate the tall mature sounds throughout
Be very precise with your rhythm. It tends to get sloppy.
Spend time rehearsing sections B, C, & D individually and then put it all together.
Nail down pgs. 15 & 16
Candelight Carol
Proper ENGLISH diction throughout. (Don't be afraid to add a bit of an upper-class English accent. It will only HELP the diction.
You are doing a good job covering all of the upper and lower vocal registers on pg. 3
Don't let it shake you when the parts have slightly differing rhythms. Mark it in your music so you are not surprised when you hear it.
At letter D, please don't slow down. It is a tempo! When an a cappella section is slipped into the middle of a song, the tendency is for the choir to slow down. Watch me, I am going to push the tempo.
At the end, we will hold the vowel of "born" for six beats, then close to an "n" for three beats on pitch.

1 WATCH AND THINK AHEAD
Sussex Carol
This has a long introduction. PLEASE stay on task. Smile at the audience. You have almost 15 measures to prepare. TB, you don't need to look at your music until the middle of page four!!!
Don't forget that the first time we have a harmony, we should make it BIG so it grabs the audience's attention
Don't be thrown off by those measures where the arranger gives a 2/2 or 3/2 feel; just watch and you'll be fine.
Dynamics are vital to making this song successful.
Remember it is UH-MEHN not AY-MEN
